Goalie fight? Blues’ Binnington takes shots at Dubnyk, Sharks

Fights are common in hockey, but goalie fights?

Those don’t happen every day, but we almost had one during the Sharks’ game against the St. Louis Blues on Saturday night at SAP Center.

After Evander Kane scored his second goal of the night to give the Sharks a 4-3 lead in the second period, the Blues decided to pull starting goalie Jordan Binnington.

But Binnington didn’t go quietly.

As he headed to the St. Louis bench, Binnington heard something from Sharks defenseman Radim Simek, so the goalie gave him a shove into the boards.

Binnington was given a unsportsmanlike conduct penalty and started to head to the Blues’ dressing room. As he skated off the ice, he gave another shove to Erik Karlsson.

Binnington didn’t stop there. Seriously. He then went to Sharks starting goalie Devan Dubnyk and tried to start a fight with him. The referees broke it up and pushed Binnington towards the exit.

In all, Binnington took shots at three Sharks before leaving the ice.

Binnington, who helped the Blues eliminate the Sharks on their way to winning the Stanley Cup in 2019, allowed four goals and made 15 saves in just over 30 minutes of total ice time Saturday.

He won’t be proud of his performance before or after getting pulled from the net, and he might hear from the league for his conduct.
