What’s open and closed on Family Day in Hamilton

Family Day #FamilyDay

Monday marks the day before Hamilton sees loosening COVID-19 restrictions, including the opening of restaurants for indoor dining, gyms and personal care services like hair salons.

But it’s also a statutory holiday, meaning there might be more closures than normal.

Here’s a look at what will be open and closed on Family Day.

Grocery and liquor stores

Most grocery stores will be closed on Monday, but check with your local businesses.

LCBO and The Beer Store locations will be closed on Monday.

Green Cart, Recycling and Garbage Collection

The city says community recycling centres and transfer stations will be closed. There won’t be any green cart, blue box, bulk waste, yard waste, or garbage pick-up.

The city says your pick-up will be one day later if it falls on or after the holiday.

HSR

The HSR buses will operate on a Sunday/holiday schedule on Monday, Feb. 15. More details can be found on the HSR website or by calling (905) 527 4441.

ATS-DARTS

DARTS will also be operating on holiday service hours. The city says all subscription trips on DARTS, with the exception of dialysis, are cancelled for Monday. If someone needs to travel on this day, they have to make a reservation in advance.

ATS customer service will be closed on Monday.

Entertainment, shopping

The Hamilton Public Library branches are closed on Family Day. More information is available on the library website, where people can also use its virtual branch.

Malls continue to be closed as part of the province’s stay-at-home order, but are allowed to open on Tuesday. People should check with local independent shops for their hours.

Some Shoppers Drug Mart locations will be open, as well as Rexall locations.

Canada Post, Banks

Banks will be closed on Monday. Canada Post says regular collection and delivery of mail occurs on provincial Family Day holidays.

Licensing, bylaw, Ontario Works

The licensing and bylaw phone queue line will be closed on Monday. It will resume on Tuesday, Feb. 16.

That number is 905-546-2782.

The city says people with matters requiring immediate attention — like “inadequate heat, vital services, snow and ice that needs to be removed off city sidewalks, matters regarding COVID-19 or a health and safety concern” — can call the city’s customer contact centre at 905-546-2489.

People with emergencies involving roads, water mains, sewer systems, public health and safety issues are also asked to call that number.

The Ontario Works program, including the special supports program, will be closed. The phone queue line of  905-546-4800 will also resume on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.
