Arise Sir Philip May – Theresa May’s husband to be knighted

Philip May, husband to former Prime Minister Theresa May, is to be knighted for his political service.

Upon a recommendation from Boris Johnson, The Queen has signified her intention of conferring a knighthood to Mr May who lived in 10 Downing Street from 2016 to 2019.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has also recommended that a number of individuals are awarded peerages, meaning they will sit in the House of Lords.

The Queen has signified her intention of elevating former Chancellor of the Exchequer Philip Hammond to the House of Lords, in addition to former MP Ken Clarke and former leader of the Scottish Conservative Party, Ruth Davidson.

Former cricketer Ian Botham and media magnate Evgeny Lebedev are also being conferred with peerages.

Five former-Labour MPs who were highly critical of Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership are also being rewarded with peerages – Frank Field, Kate Hoey, Ian Austin, Gisela Stuart and John Woodcock.
