Patrick Mahomes made an absolutely amazing throw early in Super Bowl 55 but Tyreek Hill dropped it

Patrick Mahomes was anything but sharp in the early minutes of Super Bowl 55. That’s sort of to be expected: This game is usually messy in the opening minutes, as the teams are frayed after two weeks of build-up and a day waiting to finally. play. football.

Plus there’s always a feeling-out period in the first quarter, as the coaches for each team try to figure out what the other coaches have planned.

But there’s no denying that Mahomes going 1-for-6 for 3 yards is … unexpected. You just don’t see numbers like that from him.

Of course he’s still doing things that no other QB could do. He’s just missing by a smidgen.

Just … how? The poise to avoid the rush, drift left and then square up and deliver a throw with pace and touch … unbelievable.

Here’s another angle:

Todd Bowles builds a SAW pressure on 3rd down with the Nickel and CB and completely catches the Chiefs off-guard, really hard to sort this out from a 6 man protection.

Outstanding job by Mahomes to avoid the pressure and get this throw off. pic.twitter.com/QLLUCxYKJW

Hill maybe should have caught it, too:

And you know you need to see the dots on this one:

On 3rd & 11, Patrick Mahomes’ deep pass intended for Tyreek Hill falls incomplete.

The Bucs defense blitzed two cornerbacks off the edge forcing Mahomes to scramble 14.9 yards from snap to pass.

The pass had just an 18.3% completion probability.#SBLV pic.twitter.com/OTAvP2YIK4

Mahomes gives us so many highlight-reel-worthy throws that you can easily find 10 that are completely astounding if you rule out incompletions. But some of his most incredible throws, like the one above, go uncaught.

Patrick Mahomes makes so many insane throws that will be lost to history lol. Like what was that.

Yeah. That.
