Joe Rogan calls for Conor McGregor to face Nate Diaz ahead of Dustin Poirier as trilogy fight won’t ‘offend anyone’

CONOR MCGREGOR’s next fight should be a rubber match with Nate Diaz, UFC commentator Joe Rogan believes.

The former two-division champion is in desperate need of a victory following his stunning UFC 257 loss to Dustin Poirier last month.

McGregor, 32, is itching to have a trilogy fight with his former featherweight rival, but Rogan believes the Irishman would be better served settling his long-standing score with fan favourite Diaz.

During a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience Podcast, he said: “Conor versus Nate Diaz is an excellent option.

“It’s an excellent option because that doesn’t offend anyone, like myself, who is a purist.”

Rogan reckons a trilogy fight with Diaz is stylistically a better match-up for The Notorious than a series decider with Poirier.

The 53-year-old said of a third fight between McGregor and Diaz: “Give them some time off.

“It doesn’t offend anyone and Nate is not the kind of kicker that Dustin is. He’s much more of a boxer. It falls into Conor’s wheelhouse more.

“And Nate is also insanely durable and Nate also has a finish over Conor. Conor does not have a finish over Nate Diaz.”

McGregor, 32, revealed he’s open to facing the youngest Diaz brother shortly after being handed his third defeat inside the octagon.

But the Dubliner’s sights are seemingly set on settling the score with former interim lightweight champion Poirier.

Ireland’s first UFC champion wrote on Instagram: “What a trilogy I now have on my hands. Exciting!

“With a handle on the leg kicks I will get back to having fun in there.

“I was in second gear cruising this fight. Best condition I’ve ever been in.

“After the wrestling and clinch exchanges my shots still held their pop. First time for me with this so I am very encouraged to keep going.

“It was the first time I did not use/nor need the stool between rounds also. I did need the stool after though that’s for sure.

“I am extremely happy I did not need to use the stool between rounds here anyway. Another first for me!
