Virat Kohli and Chris Gayle hit the ball so beautifully, you want to be able to do that as well: Williamson
New Zealand captain Kane Williamson feels that it is always important to be able to develop your game and try new shots in T20 cricket and therefore believes that players such as Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers are some of the best in the game.
He said that you always want to be able to hit the ball as beautifully as them and try and work on different areas to be a better player in the T20 format.
“You always think you want to hit the ball like Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers and Virat and these guys hit the ball so beautifully and you try hit as well as you can but also try and perhaps work in different areas to make an impact for the team you are in,” Williamson told Sports Today.
Williamson, who is ranked No. 1 in the ICC Test rankings, said that the biggest challenge for any international player is to be able to switch from one format of the game to another.
However, the star batsman said that the key to be able to switch from one style of batting to another is to understand the role that you play for the team.
“That always is a challenge. All international players see that as a challenge, making those adjustments quickly because obviously you can play a series within a space of a month, when you can go from Test cricket to T20 cricket and the tempo changes.
“I think making the adjustments, having the understanding of your role in the team, I believe it’s quite important,” he said.
Been trying out new shots, says Williamson
The New Zealander added that to be an effective player you have to be able to develop your game constantly and add new shots and better your skill-set.
“I think it’s been really interesting to see the evolution of T20 cricket, so many different players, different shapes and sizes be able to be effective and you get guys and girls that have variations and power and you try come up with ways to be effective.
“I think that has been important to me and I have been trying to do that, develop my game and try new shots and workout how you can add up to the team with the skill-set you have,” he added.
