The day has finally arrived, and Genshin Impact players can get their hands on Xiao, the 5 star anemo polearm user, at last. He launched late last night and players have been trying to pull him, with some saving for a good long while to do so, like me.

I was one of the lucky ones. I got Xiao in my first 10 wishes, and then a second Xiao in my next 10, taking him up to C1. But even at C0 he’s a force to be reckoned with, though I still have some work to get the materials needed to take him there. You couldn’t fully “save up” for Xiao considering you needed a new boss material to do so, which you could only start farming last night.

Anyway, when you do have a Xiao, these are the artifact sets and weapons you’re going to want to try on him.

Artifacts:

Gladiator’s Finale (boss farm) 2 piece – ATK +18%. 4 piece – If the wielder of this artifact set uses a Sword, Claymore or Polearm, increases their Normal Attack DMG by 35%.

Viridescent Venerer (farmed from Valley of Remembrance Domain) 2 piece – Anemo DMG Bonus +15%, 4 piece – Increases Swirl DMG by 60%. Decreases opponent’s Elemental RES to the element infused in the Swirl by 40% for 10s.

However, it seems like the best option for Xiao at the current moment are two pieces from each set, and a fifth of your choice. The 4 piece bonuses on each won’t benefit him more than then 2 piece from each, it seems.

Weapons:

Primordial Jade Winged Spear (5 star) – On hit, increases ATK by 3.2% for 6s. Max 7 stacks. This effect can only occur once every 0.3s. While in possession of the maximum possible stacks, DMG dealt is increased by 12%.

Skyward Spine (5 star) – Increases CRIT Rate by 8% and increases Normal ATK SPD by 12%. Additionally, Normal and Charged Attacks hits on opponents have a 50% chance to trigger a vaccuum blade that deals 40% of ATK as DMG in a small AoE. This effect can occur no more than once every 2s.

Blackcliff Pole (4 star) – After defeating an opponent, ATK is increased by 12% for 30s. This effect has a maximum of 3 stacks, and the duration of each stack is independent of the others.

Deathmatch (4 star, in battle pass) – If there are at least 2 opponents nearby, ATK is increased by 16% and DEF is increased by 16%. If there are less than 2 opponents nearby, ATK is increased by 24%.

So, these are your options for now, as you attempt to make Xiao into a main DPS. There are alternatives you could try if you’re trying to build him out in other ways, but for now, these seem like some of the best options you can shoot for, either farming those artifacts or praying you get lucky with some good weapon pulls.

It’s a little hard to go wrong with Xiao, so just experiment and see what works for you, if the above doesn’t, or if you don’t have some of the pieces.
