CPD arrests local man after overdose report

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Columbus police arrested a local man on several felony charges after he reportedly overdosed inside a Columbus apartment on Monday evening.

At approximately 11 p.m., officers responded to a residence in the 3200 block of Nicholas Lane in regards to a possible overdose, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

The arriving officers located Clinton J. Mings, 30, of Columbus who was unconscious inside the apartment bathroom, Harris said. CPD officers and paramedics rendered aid to Mings and administered four rounds of Narcan to him before he finally regained consciousness. After observing drug paraphernalia inside the apartment, the officers applied for a later received a search warrant. During a search of the apartment, the officers located methamphetamine and heroin along with drug paraphernalia including digital scales as well as two firearms, Harris said.

Mings was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital for medical treatment. Upon his discharge from the hospital, he was remanded to the Bartholomew County Jail with a 48 hour hold on the following preliminary charges:

  • Dealing in Methamphetamine (Level 2 Felony)
  • Possession of Methamphetamine (Level 3 Felony)
  • Felon in Possession of a Firearm (Level 5 Felony)
  • Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Domestic Batterer (Class A Misdemeanor)
  • Invasion of Privacy (Class A Misdemeanor)
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Class C Misdemeanor)
