Jon Rahm leads way on WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational odds

Jon Rahm will make his first PGA Tour appearance as the world’s top-ranked golfer when he tees off on Thursday at the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational as a +1000 betting favourite at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.

Rahm leaped to the top of the World Golf Rankings following his victory two weeks ago at the Memorial Tournament, and has now cracked the top 10 on five occasions this season going into the 2020 WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational at TPC Southwind in Memphis.

The 25-year-old Spaniard’s recent victory also put the brakes on what was a dismal run since the PGA Tour resumed last month. Rahm struggled in four outings prior to his win at the Memorial, finishing no better than 27th, and missing the cut once. However, he turned in an impressive performance in his debut at this event a year ago, challenging the course record with a spectacular opening-round 62.

Closely trailing Rahm at the top of the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational odds at sports betting sites is the man he toppled from the top of the rankings. Rory McIlroy trails as a +1100 second favourite, just ahead of Bryson DeChambeau, who joins Justin Thomas at +1200.

McIlroy will be looking to rebound after finishing a distant 32nd in his last outing at the Memorial Tournament. The four-time major tournament winner enjoyed a torrid start to the season, finishing among the top five in his first six PGA Tour appearances, including a win at the WGC-HSBC Champions. McIlroy has struggled since the PGA Tour resumed after a three-month pause, though, finishing better than 32nd just once in four appearances with an 11th-place performance at last month’s Travelers Championship. However, the 31-year-old hopes to build on his fourth-place finish in this event a year ago.

After seeing a stretch of seven straight top-10 finishes end two weeks ago, when he missed the cut at the Memorial Tournament, DeChambeau will be looking to return to form when he makes his third career appearance at the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational this weekend. The 26-year-old capped his impressive run with a win at this month’s Rocket Mortgage Classic, but has work to do to improve on his two previous finishes outside the top 40 at this event.

Thomas stumbled to a distant 18th at the Memorial after finishing second at the Workday Charity Open, and settled for 12th place last year at this event.

Further down the golf odds for this week, Patrick Cantlay sits at +1600, followed by Webb Simpson and Xander Schauffele at +2000, while the defending champion at this event, Brooks Koepka, lags as a +3300 wager.
