Irene took a break from social media following a scandal involving her stylist

Back in October, a huge scandal erupted involving Red Velvet’s lead singer Irene and her stylist.

The drama all started when a fashion stylist uploaded a post to Instagram claiming that a celebrity she had recently worked with had said very nasty words to her and brought her to tears.

She didn’t name who the celebrity was, but fans later found out that she was talking about Irene when the Red Velvet singer made a public apology.

Irene took to Instagram to apologise and said:

“This is Irene. I am sincerely sorry for hurting the stylist with my foolish attitude and careless words and actions. Getting to this spot involved help from many people who worked together with me, but my immature actions caused great hurt and I regret that and am reflecting. I’ve been looking back on the past because of this, and I’ve felt very embarrassed because of my lacking words and actions and I once again feel how precious the staff are. I will be more cautious about my actions in the future so that this does not happen again. I am sincerely sorry to the fans who support me and to everyone who has been caused concern because of this.”

That was the last post Irene made on Instagram, and she then took a break from social media and hasn’t been active on Instagram since October. Now, three months later, Irene is back.

Irene returns to social media with another apology

Months after the scandal, Irene has returned to social media with a post on the SM Entertainment-owned app Lysm.

She opened the post by saying hello to her fans and asking how everyone is doing before revealing how scared she was to write this post. Then, she began her second public apology.

“First of all, I want to say that I apologise for causing so much pain and worry to people,” she said. Then, she continued to address her life in the entertainment world.

“I started my life as a trainee in 2009 at the age of 19, and standing in front of all of you as Red Velvet’s Irene up until now has been everything in my life. As I approached an age that could be seen as both young and old, while living in the small society known as the entertainment world, I wanted to do the best when it came to my work and I thought of achieving that as being the most important task I’ve been given. I thought that I was getting along well with the people around me in my own way, so I didn’t know that my methods of communication or my expressions could become a problem, and I just thought that everyone has different ways of communicating,” she said.

Irene then continued to say that she has had a lot of time to “quietly reflect” on herself. “I realised that there were people around me who cherished me, even if it was undeserved, including my members, fans, and staff,” she wrote.

“Just as one can’t turn back the clock, I’m also working hard to not return to the way I used to be. I realized the weight of words and actions, and I will try to become a more mature person. On top of showing a good side of myself as Red Velvet’s leader and a singer, I will also work hard as the person Bae Joo Hyun to not disappoint you.”

“I hope that there will no longer be anyone who is criticized because of what happened due to my imperfections,” she said before finishing the post by wishing her fans a late Happy New Year.
