The Boston Bruins started 2021 off on the right foot.

Boston jumped out to an early first-period lead over the New Jersey Devils thanks to Brad Marchand’s first goal of the season.

New Jersey and Bruins alternated goals throughout the rest of the contest, going all the way to a shootout to decide the first game of the season.

The B’s were unable to win any of their shootouts this past season, but took their first of 2021 thanks to heroics in net by Tuukka Rask, and a timely finish by Marchy.

Charlie McAvoy led the way defensively for the Bruins while logging a team-high 25:33 time on ice. McAvoy added three blocked shots, three hits and two shots on goal throughout the night.
