John Wolford’s chance at history was unfortunately cut short.

The Rams quarterback, who started in place of Jared Goff (recovering from thumb surgery), was photographed being placed in an ambulance after exiting the game with an apparent head/neck injury.

The Rams originally designated Wolford as questionable to return with a neck injury.

Wolford was removed from the game after a controversial hit from Seahawks safety Jamal Adams, hitting the quarterback in the helmet with a shoulder as he was heading to the ground.

Wolford remained down for a few moments before team doctors and trainers tended to him. Fortunately, Wolford was able to walk off the field under his own power. Some felt that Adams’ hit was a bit late, but no flag was thrown on the play. Fox officiating analyst Mike Pereira said Adam’s was a late hit that should have been flagged.

Wolford was replaced by Goff, who started the game on the bench 12 days removed from surgery to repair a mangled thumb. The Rams entered halftime with a 20-10 lead over home Seattle.

Wolford made his NFL debut in Week 17, pushing the Rams to a victory and a playoff berth over the Cardinals.
