Olivia Rodrigo’s new single has got fans talking, and for all the right reasons. Read on to find out more about her and connection to Taylor Swift.
Drivers License was released today, January 8th, and is Olivia Rodrigo’s first project away from a movie or TV show. The song’s available on all streaming platforms, while the music video is also on YouTube.
Co-written by Olivia herself and Daniel Nigro, it tells the heartfelt story of an ex-lover. Fans on Twitter have been loving the new single, and have also noted a connection with Taylor Swift.
Who is Olivia Rodrigo?
It might be hard to tell from her career, but Olivia is only 17 years old. You may recognise her already from her role as Nini in Disney+’s High School Music: The Musical – The Series. Olivia also starred as Paige in Disney’s Bizzardvark between 2016 and 2019.
New Girl fans however may recognise her from her one-episode role as a character called Terrinea in 2017.
Drivers License isn’t Olivia Rodrigo’s first music hit either, in 2019 she released All I Want from High School Musical: The Musical, which charted on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned a gold certification.
On Instagram, she has over two million followers under the handle @olivia.rodrigo, where she regularly uploads pictures and music.

She’s a Taylor Swift fan
Taylor Swift fans on Twitter have especially been showing support for Olivia Rodrigo’s new single, and for good reason too. Olivia is a swiftie herself.
The singer regularly shows her love for Taylor Swift, uploading images of her merch and sharing posts in support of Taylor’s music. On her Spotify bio, Olivia even describes herself as a “huge swiftie”.
In her YouTube Q&A to celebrate her single’s release, Olivia answered questions about her love for Taylor, naming her favourite tracks from Evermore and explaining that she’d like to collaborate in the future.
Fans of both artists have even noted how similar their musical style is. “Olivia Rodrigo is like Taylor and Lorde’s child,” wrote one fan.
