Packers WR Davante Adams enters rare territory with another dominant performance

During a football season nearly void of actual disappointment in Green Bay, the only upsetting thing might be the fact that Packers receiver Davante Adams had to miss two games to injury.

What Adams has accomplished during the other 13 games has been nothing sort of extraordinary.

The Packers’ Pro Bowl receiver caught 11 passes for 142 yards and three more touchdowns during Green Bay’s 40-14 rout of the Tennessee Titans on Sunday night, adding another chapter to what has been the season of a lifetime for Adams.

In just 13 games, Adams has 109 catches, 1,328 yards and 17 touchdowns.

His 17 touchdown catches tie him with Hall of Famer Don Hutson for the second-most in team history. Adams now trails only Sterling Sharpe’s 18 for the record.

Adams also became just the 11th player in NFL history to catch at least 17 touchdown passes in a single season, and he’s only the third player with at least 100 catches, 1,300 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns in a season, joining Cris Carter (1995) and Randy Moss (2003).

The Titans had no answer for No. 17 at a snowy Lambeau Field.

Adams caught the game’s opening score, giving the Packers a 6-0 lead, and he extended the lead to 19-0 on a second touchdown in the second quarter. Later, he had the scoring response to the Titans’ touchdown to open the second half, and he produced a sprawling 32-yard catch setting up the Packers’ final touchdown.

Asked about Adams following Sunday night’s win, quarterback Aaron Rodgers said his receiver has joined Hall of Fame defensive back Charles Woodson among the greatest players Rodgers has ever played with.

Adams and Rodgers are now the most prolific pass-completing duo in Packers history with 493 total completions. The quarterback and receiver combination has also produced 56 touchdowns since Adams entered the NFL in 2014.

The Packers finish the 2020 regular season against the Bears in Chicago next Sunday. At his current pace, Adams will finish the year with 117 catches, 1,430 yards and 18 touchdowns.
