Raiders collapse in final seconds, lose 26-25 to Dolphins
Raiders #Raiders
In a big Week 16 game in the AFC, the Raiders needed to win to keep their playoff hopes alive. Unfortunately, they fell apart in the final seconds of the game and lost their third-straight game.
The first three-quarters of this game was rather uneventful as only two total touchdowns were scored. However, the intensity picked up late in the fourth quarter as the Dolphins benched Tua Tagavolia in favor of Ryan Fitzpatrick. The well-traveled veteran quarterback led Miami down the field and tied the game at 16-16 with just over four minutes left.
The play of the game happened on the next drive as Derek Carr hit Nelson Agholor on an 85-yard touchdown to take a 22-16 lead (despite a Daniel Carlson missed extra points) The Dolphins would score just a few plays later, taking a 23-22 lead with only a few minutes remaining.
On the next drive for the Raiders, Agholor would draw a massive defensive pass interference call that would result in a 49-yard penalty that put the ball on the 22-yard line of the Dolphins. The Raiders would eventually kick a field goal to take the lead with only a few seconds left.
Unfortunately, disaster struck for the Raiders as Fitzpatrick completed a long-ball down the field and they drew a roughing the passer call to put the ball at the 26-yard line with 12 seconds left. Two players later, the Dolphins kicked the game-winning field goal with just six seconds left.
The Raiders are now eliminated from the playoff picture as they sit at 7-8 on the year. They will finish up their 2020-2021 season in Denver as they will face the Broncos. That game is currently scheduled for January 3 at 4:25 p.m. E.T.
