Steph Curry passes Rick Barry, Wilt Chamberlain up next on Warriors’ all-time scoring list

Eleven years after the Golden State Warriors made Steph Curry the seventh overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, the greatest shooter in NBA history is continuing to add to his legacy.

In the first half of the Warriors’ Christmas Day matchup with the Milwaukee Bucks, Curry surpassed Rick Barry to become the all-time leading scorer in the franchise’s West Coast era (1962-present).

A three-point shot off an assist from his brother-in-law, Damion Lee, with 4:39 left in the second quarter against the Bucks pushed Curry’s career point total to 16,449, two points better than Barry, a 12-time All-Star and Hall of Fame forward.

Curry is still 1,000-plus points away from topping Wilt Chamberlain in the franchise’s all-time record books as Chamberlain scored 17,783 points in his NBA career, but he inched closer with five additional second quarter points including a 29-foot jumper with 1.3 seconds left in the half to pull Golden State within 10 points of Milwaukee.

Curry also bested his own record in the first half of Friday’s Christmas showdown, extending his career record for consecutive made free throws to 55 during the first quarter.

Friday marked the eighth consecutive Christmas Day appearance for Golden State and the 30th all time.

No. 2 overall pick James Wiseman (19) also became the fourth-youngest player in NBA history to start on Christmas Day. LeBron James (2003), Kevin Durant (2007) and Kevin Knox (2018) are the only players who were younger at the time of their Christmas Day starts.
