Henderson Co. Lady Colonels defeat Owensboro, Advance in KHSAA playoffs

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – Henderson Co. high school girls basketball defeats Owensboro in the KHSAA round of 16, 43-39, to advance to the next round of the KHSAA playoffs.
While Henderson County may have been missing one of their biggest contributors, they knew this was a game they had to win, and that brought extra motivation for other players on the team to step up and get the job done.
”I just, can’t talk enough about the defensive effort in the second half,” said Head Coach Stephen Haile. “We allowed 13 points. I told the girls before the basketball game, for us to win, it was going to have to be in the 30s or very low 40s, especially with Brooklyn being out, just to allow 13 points in the second half is a testament to the defensive effort that they’ve put forth all season.”
”I was feeling really good, and the energy from our bench really helped out,” said Sophomore Forward Atylia Green. “Everybody hyping each other up helped our defense. It being a big rivalry game made me pumped up for it.”
Henderson County will play tomorrow in the next round.
