Update: More information about the injuries a high schooler received when her head was smashed into the pavement by a fellow student has been released.
The victim, only identified as Kaylee, is fighting for life in critical condition, with a skull fracture and frontal lobe damage, according to her family.
“In minutes, this family’s life shattered when their only daughter was assaulted outside of a North County high school,” a GoFundMe account stated. “She was left alone on the ground to convulse before EMTs arrived on the scene.
“She has major brain bleeding and swelling and is in critical condition. We will not know the extinct of the brain damage that has occurred until she wakes up but the path to recovery will be extremely hard on the family, not only mentally but financially. Her mother and father are staying by her side night and day hoping to bring her back to the Kaylee they know and love.”
March 11 – A teen who was filmed smashing another high schooler’s skull onto the pavement of a St. Louis street has been arrested.
Last Friday, St. Louis County Police Department officers responded to a fight in progress just after 2:30 p.m. near the Hazelwood East High School’s campus.
The school released the following statement:
“It is a tragedy anytime children are hurt. Bullying and fighting in the community is an issue for which we all need to take ownership and work towards a resolution for the sake of our children. The Hazelwood School District offers our sincerest condolences to everyone involved, and will offer additional emotional support from our support and crisis team to those in need. We look forward to continuing to partner with our community for the sake of our children. Please be kind and respectful of the families involved during this difficult time and pledge to help work toward the betterment of our entire community.“
Police said they found one teen girl suffering from a severe head injury when they arrived. She was taken to the hospital and is listed in critical condition.
An alleged video of the incident shows a Black girl smashing a white girl’s head onto a concrete surface multiple times until the white girl appears to have a seizure.
A spokesperson for the St. Louis County PD told Fox2, they arrested the 15-year-old girl believed to be responsible for the attack.
She’s being held on assault charges, they said.
Online viewers of the alleged assault, say the charges are not enough.
“That is absolutely attempted murder, and if she dies actual murder not manslaughter,” they wrote on Reddit. “Taking her down and punching her was one thing, but smashing her head into concrete was trying to kill her.”
Internet sleuths identified the attacker as Maurnice DeClue -a volleyball player at the high school- and the victim as “Kailee.”
Others on social media have claimed that Kailee has died from her injuries but their identities have not been officially released.
