Michelle Yeoh Explains That Awkward Handoff Of Oscar To Emma Stone

That brief tug-of-war between Michelle Yeoh and Emma Stone during the Best Actress presentation apparently requires some explanation.

Five former Best Actress Oscar winners, including Yeoh and Jennifer Lawrence, were on stage to greet this year’s recipient.

Stone came up on stage after her win was announced, and Yeoh started to hand her the trophy. But instead of passing it off, Yeoh kept a firm grip on it and started dragging Stone toward Lawrence, who in turn took it in a somewhat uncomfortable handoff scrum.

Finally, Stone gained sole possession.

Today, Yeoh posted about the moment on Instagram with a mild apology in her caption.

“Congratulations Emma!! I confused you, but I wanted to share that glorious moment of handing over Oscar to you together with your best friend Jennifer!! She reminded me of my Bae Jamie Lee Curtis ♥️✨ always there for each other!! 😘😘😘”
