John Mulaney’s Ex-Wife Subtly Shaded Him Hours Before His Oscars Debut With Olivia Munn

Mulaney and Munn were seen holding hands during a rare public outing on the 2024 Oscars red carpet. The couple has kept a low profile since 2021, when rumors spread that Mulaney cheated on his ex-wife, Annamarie Tendler, before his relationship with Munn.

In an Instagram story posted a few hours before the 2024 Oscars ceremony, Tendler re-shared a meme that says, “‘I’m a Nice Guy’ Screams Man,” that was initially posted on the Instagram account of Reductress, the satire website. Could this be shade hinting at Mulaney and Munn’s red carpet debut?

Mulaney met Tendler, an artist, more than a decade ago and married in 2014. But their relationship officially ended when Mulaney filed for divorce from Tendler in July 2021. “I am heartbroken that John has decided to end our marriage. “I wish him support and success as he continues his recovery,” Tendler told Page Six in a statement at the time. Mulaney said in a statement via his rep, “John will not have any further comment as he continues to focus on his recovery and getting back to work.”

Amid Mulaney’s split from Tendler, the Saturday Night Live alum announced in September 2021 that Munn was pregnant with their first child. “We’re having a baby together,” he revealed on Late Night With Seth Meyers. “I was nervous when I was about to say the news! Olivia and this baby have helped save me from myself in this early journey out of recovery [from my drug addiction].”

He also explained the timeline of his relationship with Munn. “I went to rehab in September, I got out in October, I moved out of my home from my ex-wife,” he explained. “Then in the spring I went to Los Angeles and met and started to date a wonderful woman named Olivia. I got into this relationship that’s been really beautiful with someone incredible. And we’re having a baby together.”

As for when Mulaney and Munn officially met, they first crossed paths at Meyers’ wedding to his wife, Alexi Ashe, in 2013. However, a source close to Tendler denied that Mulaney asked her for divorce in October 2020 and instead asked her for a divorce in February 2021, when news broke of their breakup. The insider also claimed that Mulaney had cheated on Tendler before going to rehab again in December 2020. “Anna Marie knew he was doing things with other women before he went to rehab in December. And his claims to friends that he was trying to protect her before he went away to rehab were rubbish, she didn’t need protecting,” the source said.

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times in November 2021, Munn said of the speculation revolving around their relationship, “It’s definitely not foreign for me to have people speculate incorrectly about things and to have rumors run rampant in one way.” She continued, “They think they know our relationship so well. When in reality, they don’t. There’s no way anyone could know what any of his relationships were or what our relationship is.”

It’s been three years since the cheating rumors, but Mulaney and Munn seem to be in a great place. They welcomed their son Malcolm that November. On January 10, 2021, Munn took to Instagram to share a photo of Mulaney holding and kissing their newborn after the holidays. “The smooshiest smoosh 💋,” she captioned the photo. The pair made their red carpet debut in January at the 2024 Governors Awards in Los Angeles where they were pictured holding hands and gazing at each other on the carpet.

A source exclusively told Us Weekly in June 2022 that they were “really not in a rush to get married” and that Munn wanted “to enjoy this time as a new mom” as she embraced “all its challenges and ups and downs.” The insider also said that “having a baby surely brought them closer as a couple.”
