Kai Havertz can’t hide his annoyance with question from Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp

Kai Havertz is clearly getting bored of being asked where his best position is with the Arsenal star showing his frustration when quizzed on Sky Sports after scoring the winner against Brentford

Kai Havertz cut a frustrated figure as he was quizzed, once again, on his best position – with the Arsenal star claiming he’s constantly asked the same question.

The playmaker came up with a late winner as Arsenal saw off Brentford to go top of the Premier League, even if only for less than 24 hours. Havertz’s influence has gradually increased since his move from Chelsea with the German copping criticism for his slow start.

One of the main issues he faced was a lack of consistency with his position. Mikel Arteta deployed Havertz in a variety of different roles with the German now settling as a false 9. His versatility, whilst an asset, has at times been used against him, but Havertz doesn’t want to nail himself to one position.

Sky Sports’ Jamie Redknapp asked him where he felt his best role was, before he replied, somewhat frustratingly: “I don’t know how many times I answered this question already. I’m just happy to be on the pitch. I’m not a player who only plays in one position. Sometimes it’s good, sometimes its bad, but it suits me quite well. I just love it in this team.

“I love to play as the false nine, the eight, as the No10, wherever you want me to go. In Germany. I played as a left-back as well, so it’s all good.”

Havertz, after struggling for weeks to find the net, has now scored more goals this term than he did last year with Chelsea. He’s enjoying something of a purple patch with his Brentford winner coming alongside recent strikes against Newcastle and Sheffield United.

The Arsenal fans didn’t immediately take to their German recruit but there has been a huge shift in that affection with the Emirates singing Havertz’s name – which Arteta admits would’ve been hard to believe earlier this season.

He said: “I am so happy. If someone told me that after the first two or three months the whole stadium is singing his song with that passion, with that feeling, with that chemistry, it would be hard to believe, but that’s what happens to good people and an exceptional player.”

Arsenal secured a second late win of the season against Brentford with Havertz notching an injury time winner in west London earlier this season. The Gunners will now watch their two title rivals, Manchester City and Liverpool, square off on Sunday afternoon.
