BROSSARD – Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes announced on Friday that the team has traded goaltender Jake Allen to the New Jersey Devils in exchange for a conditional third-round pick in 2025. The Canadiens will retain 50% of Allen’s remaining salary for this season and the next.

The third-round pick will become New Jersey’s second-round pick in 2025 if Allen plays in 40 or more games during the 2024-25 season and if Allen’s club at that time (New Jersey or otherwise) qualifies for the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The 33-year-old netminder posted a 6-12-3 record and maintained a .892 save percentage with a 3.65 goals-against average in 21 games with the Canadiens this season. Allen, a Fredericton, NB native, has taken part in 416 career NHL games with the St. Louis Blues and the Canadiens since making his debut in 2012-13. The 6-foot-2, 197 lb goaltender has earned 189 career wins in addition to 24 shutouts.

Allen was acquired from the Blues on Sept. 2, 2020, in exchange for draft picks.
