Another added: ‘Embarrassing,’ while another Tweet read: ‘Loooool, he was probably watching our game with spurs from last year’ following by a laughing crying face emoji.
One fan compared Crooks’ blunder to Liverpool right back Trent Alexander-Arnold nutmegging Son Heung-min during the clash at Anfield.
Liverpool secured a 2-1 victory over Spurs in what was a top-of-the-table clash at the time with Roberto Firmino scoring a last-minute header to seal all three points.
Matip returned for the trip to Crystal Palace on Saturday and played the full 90 minutes as Liverpool secured an emphatic 7-0 victory. As well as playing a key part in keeping the Eagles out, the centre half provided the assist for Mohamed Salah’s first goal in the second half.
It is not the first time Crooks has been guilty of a gaffe. Back in 2012 he suggested that West Brom’s James Morrison might enter England manager Roy Hodgson’s plans. But Morrison had actually been playing for Scotland for four years.
