Rep. Lauren Boebert’s (R-CO) son was arrested on multiple felony counts in connection with a string of thefts, police said.

Tyler Jay Boebert, 18, the oldest of Lauren Boebert’s four children, was arrested by the Rifle Police Department on Tuesday, it announced in a Facebook post. He is facing four felony counts of criminal possession of ID documents and one felony count of conspiracy to commit a felony, along with 15 other misdemeanor and petty offenses. The charges are connected to vehicle trespasses and property thefts.

In a statement, Lauren Boebert expressed her sorrow and support for her son, who she bemoaned as the “subject of attention that he didn’t ask for.”

“It breaks my heart to see my child struggling and, in this situation, especially when he has been provided multiple opportunities to get his life on track,” she said. “I will never give up on him and I will continue to be there for him. As an adult and father, Tyler will take responsibility for his actions and should be held accountable for poor decisions just like any other citizen.”

Lauren Boebert added that her son would “take responsibility for his actions” and “should be held accountable for poor decisions just like any other citizen.”

Police were involved with the Boeberts earlier this year when they received reports Lauren Boebert was fighting with her ex-husband, Jayson Boebert, Tyler’s father. Jayson Boebert was arrested on charges of misdemeanor assault and criminal mischief on Jan. 9 and later reportedly released on bail.

He was also in the news before, having a child at age 17 and making the Colorado Republican a grandmother at age 37. Lauren Boebert has brought her grandson to events, drawing some criticism.

The Colorado firebrand has drawn scrutiny over her personal life, scrutiny that reached a fever pitch last year when she was caught on camera groping her date at a musical directed at children. She is seeking to switch districts by getting elected to Colorado’s 4th Congressional District to replace the outgoing Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO).
