Jets star acting like GM (not Aaron Rodgers) needs to ‘shut up!’ host says

Rodgers #Rodgers

Doesn’t Sauce Gardner know the New York Jets can only have two general managers — Joe Douglas and (quarterback) Aaron Rodgers?

Because all of his recommendations for the roster in recent days on X are not doing the Jets any favors, ranted WFAN’s Gregg Giannotti on Thursday.

“I’m not so naïve or so much of a stickler or old man to say this isn’t fun at all,” Giannotti said, via Audacy. “I get he’s having fun and it really doesn’t matter. But if I’m Joe Douglas, I’m like, ‘Just shut up, man!’ … You can’t be telling everybody what you want on the team!”

Over the past day, Gardner, who dubbed himself “LeSauce” during his recruiting exploits, said that he would want to sign wide receivers Calvin Ridley or Mike Evans this offseason — “I can’t go wrong with either one of them,” Gardner wrote Wednesday night, appearing to double up on interest to team with Evans, whom he tweeted at Feb. 19, “You know what we talked about.”

NJ Advance Media’s Andy Vasquez wrote Wednesday: That’s significant because a year ago, Gardner and running back Breece Hall hinted that a big-name quarterback was in line to join the Jets, more than a month before Aaron Rodgers announced his desire for a trade that would land him in New Jersey.

Gardner also added he doesn’t think wide receiver Tee Higgins would be available, perhaps hinting Higgins will re-up with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Early Thursday morning, Gardner responded to a fan who asked what the team should do in the draft.

Easy for Gardner, who took it a step further: “I wanna draft young at O-Line and get a vet WR,” presumably hinting again at the desire for Ridley or Evans.

Jets fans may be reluctant to follow a star’s lead after Douglas did everything to please Rodgers, signing among eight former Green Bay Packers teammates, wide receivers Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb and offensive tackle Billy Turner and finishing with a 7-10 record when the QB went down four snaps into his tenure.
