The Judgment Day Beat Dunne, Bate to Retain WWE Tag Titles at Elimination Chamber

Judgment Day members Damian Priest and Finn Bálor defeated Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate at Elimination Chamber in Perth, Australia, on Saturday to retain the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships.

Bálor got the win for The Judgment Day after a sequence that saw Priest chokeslam both members of New Catch Republic off the top rope, followed by the Irishman tagging in and hitting a Coup de Grace on Dunne for the pin.

In the weeks leading up to Elimination Chamber, a series of matches were held in order to determine the No. 1 contenders for the tag titles and the opponents for The Judgment Day at the premium live event.

Dunne and Bate won a Fatal 4-Way tag team match over the teams of Joaquin Wilde and Cruz Del Toro, Pretty Deadly, and Angel and Berto to gain entry into the No. 1 contender’s match.

Then, on Raw, DIY beat The New Day, The Creed Brothers and Imperium in another Fatal 4-Way tag team match.

On the Feb. 9 episode of SmackDown, Dunne and Bate clashed with DIY for the right to challenge Priest and Bálor, and the English wrestlers prevailed.

While Dunne and Bate teamed together many times in NXT and prior to their WWE careers in the United Kingdom, they had been kept away from each other for some time before recently reuniting.

Coming off his time with The Brawling Brutes, Dunne brought in Bate to be his partner in a match against Pretty Deadly, and then Bate helped Dunne find himself by having him ditch the Butch moniker for his Pete Dunne name.

The change brought Dunne back to his roots as The Bruiserweight and seemingly made him more dangerous than he had been in years.

Priest and Bálor entered Elimination Chamber having been champions for over 100 days, but there has been some turmoil within The Judgment Day lately due largely to R-Truth’s attempts to be part of the group.

However, the heel pair rose to the occasion in Australia and managed to retain at the final premium live event before WrestleMania 40.
