When Boris Johnson first dreamt of becoming prime minister — as a consolation prize since there is not yet a “world king” — I wonder whether his mother whispered that cautionary phrase: “Be careful what you wish for.”
This weekend Johnson is confronting arguably the country’s gravest crisis in 80 years, and from the haunted look on his face as he announced that Christmas is cancelled, he is not enjoying the job he wished for one little bit.
There was a moment during yesterday’s No 10 news conference when Johnson began to shake his head, stumbling over his words, scarcely able to believe what he was saying: “It is with a very heavy heart that I must tell you we cannot continue with Christmas as
