Ed Balls has opened up about receiving questions about accidentally kicking Susanna Reid in the back of the head. The incident took place during a live simulated flight segment last month and has been previously addressed by the pair.

On Wednesday, January 17, Ed, 56, and Susanna, 53, were live on Good Morning Britain and were debating aeroplane etiquette. However, the discussion erupted into chaos as the former decided to put his feet up on his co-star’s chair.

When swinging his legs up, Ed accidentally kicked the mum-of-three in the back of the head. Upon impact, she immediately bent down in pain and claimed: “I don’t know if I can carry on presenting the programme.”

Luckily, Susanna soon admitted that she had “no lasting damage” from the kick” but had felt “dizzy” for around 20 minutes. Following the conclusion of the ITV show, Ed took to social media and issued a public apology.

On Tuesday (February 13) the Strictly Come Dancing contestant opened up about the incident and claimed that he still gets bombarded with questions. The conversation started after Tom Allen claimed that he “loves to watch” live television because “stuff can go wrong at any moment”.

When presumably asked about his favourite broadcast, the 40-year-old said: “I just love GMB for all the different seating areas they have.”

Tom went on to claim that the ITV breakfast show has the “best chairs in television” before the studio debated his opinion.

After listening to the interview, Ed touched on the idea of things going pear-shaped while broadcasting live.

Speaking alongside his co-host Charlotte Hawkins, the former Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer said: “Things can go wrong on live TV.

“Everywhere I go people say, ‘Did you really kick [Susanna Reid] in the head?’

“I can’t get beyond it,” he added while shaking his head at the thought.

Just days after the original incident took place, Susanna left her co-host red in the face after she aimed a brutal jibe at him.

The pair took to GMB on Tuesday, 23 January and spoke about how hypnosis expert Paul McKenna would soon be joining them on the show.

At the time, Susanna asked Ed if he had any New Year’s resolutions. In reply, the TV star said: “Well, what would you like him to hypnotise me to change?”

Biting back, his co-anchor said: “Maybe just keep your feet down… Don’t put them up on the headrest, avoid knocking seven bells out of your co-presenter.”

Looking mortified, the father-of-three said: “I don’t think I need hypnosis to realise that.”

Good Morning Britain airs on weekdays between 6am and 9am on ITV and ITVX.
