First, the ref gives a very soft free kick to Madrid as Tchouameni steps on his marker’s foot and goes down like he’s been shot.

Then Xavi Simons, on the run, is once again cynically tripped from behind by a sliding tackle from Fede Valverde but somehow he escapes a booking. How on earth is that less of a yellow than Sesko’s gentle overhead kick attempt?

Simons pleads for Madrid to give him the ball, but they’re far too canny and streetwise for that. They hold onto it, wasting more time, and the ref doesn’t punish them. The home fans aren’t happy at all.
