The most anticipated car launch ahead of the Formula 1 2024 campaign took place on Tuesday as Ferrari unveiled their SF-24 car in a series of images and videos shared on social media. Weeks after agreeing a deal to land Lewis Hamilton in 2025, the Italian giants have pinned their hopes on the deep red livery for claiming a first contractor’s championship since 2008.
The Formula 1 2024 season is set to kick-start from March 2 with the Bahrain Grand Prix as the inaugural race of the campaign. The pre-season buzz has seen many big-name constructors such as Aston Martin among others who have already unveiled their cars for the upcoming season.
Fans were eagerly awaiting Ferrari’s launch and the wait finally ended on Tuesday as the Italians showed off their new challenger in an online presentation.
Keeping up with their tradition of naming their Formula 1 cars in the year they are launched, the SF-24 stands for Scuderia Ferrari 2024.
The last time a Ferrari driver won the World Championship was in 2007, which is why the Italians moved quickly to snap up Lewis Hamilton who is set to line up with the renowned car manufacturers in 2025. Keeping up with their long tradition of red livery cars, the latest SF-24 will be driven by Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz who will be lining up as teammates for a fourth season in a row.
When Hamilton turns up in 2025, there could be some changes expected in the roster, but until then Lecler and Sainz will hope to leave a mark in the brand-new challenger. Leclerc has only just signed an extension at Maranello, meaning it will be Sainz who will be moved on to accomodate the British seven-time World Champion.
In Frederic Vasseur’s first term as team boss, Ferrari were the only team to claim a victory in a Red Bull dominated campaign and the Italians will be looking to make further ground in the 24-race 2024 calendar.
