OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (KWCH) – More than 30 family members and friends were on hand at the Paycom Center on Sunday to watch Gradey Dick’s first game in the closest NBA city to his hometown in Wichita.
“It’s been my dream since I was a little kid,” Gradey said. “The fact I get to live it, I’m thankful and it’s a blessing.”
His mother, Carmen, added, “It’s just amazing, absolutely amazing. It’s a dream come true.”
The former KU, Sunrise and Collegiate star is in his rookie season with the Toronto Raptors, seeing an increased role the last two weeks since being recalled from the G League. He has four games with 20-plus minutes and two double-digit scoring efforts in that span.
He scored six points – all in the first half – in 10 minutes in a double overtime loss against the Thunder.
“I’m prepared on the bench when my name’s called to go out there and play the basketball i’ve been playing since I was a little kid,” Gradey said.
Bart, his father, said “The more you play, the more consistent you get. It’s neat to see him get to do something he loves at the highest level.”
