The Gulf of Aden faces a heightened crisis as the Indian Navy swiftly responds to save a hijacked vessel off Somalia. Deploying INS Sumitra for anti-piracy operations along the east coast of Somalia and Gulf of Aden, the Navy intercepted a distress call concerning the hijacking of the Iranian-flagged fishing vessel (FV) Iman. Pirates had boarded, taking 17 crew members hostage. Acting in accordance with established SOPs, Sumitra ensured the safe release of the crew and vessel. Following the operation, the Navy sanitized the vessel, allowing its onward transit. India, amid escalating tensions, bolstered its naval presence to 10-12 warship.
