NFL Rumors: Ravens DC Mike Macdonald Scheduled to Meet with Commanders on Monday

After the Baltimore Ravens lost Sunday’s AFC Championship Game against the Kansas City Chiefs, they are now facing the possibility of losing a key member of their coaching staff.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald is scheduled to meet with Washington Commanders owner Josh Harris, general manager Adam Peters and other team leadership on Monday night.

Macdonald has been Baltimore’s defensive coordinator for the past two seasons, leading a unit that has been among the best in the NFL during his tenure. The Ravens ranked in the top three in scoring defense in back-to-back years, leading the league with 16.5 points allowed per game.

Prior to becoming defensive coordinator, Macdonald held multiple roles on John Harbaugh’s staff from 2014 to 2020. He had a stint as Michigan’s defensive coordinator, where he worked under Harbaugh’s brother Jim Harbaugh in 2021.

Washington is one of two teams that have yet to fill its respective head coaching vacancy along with the Seattle Seahawks. The Commanders are hoping to find the right replacement for Ron Rivera, who was fired after the team’s 4-13 campaign this season.

The Ravens, who were the No. 1 seed in the AFC and had the best record in the NFL at 13-4, couldn’t get anything going on Sunday and suffered a disappointing 17-10 loss to the Chiefs in front of their home fans at M&T Bank Stadium.

Baltimore’s defense did all it could to keep the game from getting out of hand. Unfortunately, star quarterback Lamar Jackson and the rest of the Ravens offense struggled with turnovers and mental mistakes.

Now, the team will have to turn its attention to preparing for the 2024 season, and there’s a chance Macdonald won’t be around to help do so.
