Play has been suspended at The Hawthorns amid crowd trouble during West Bromwich Albion’s FA Cup fourth round match with Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Trouble flared up after Wolves’ second goal on the 78th minute with Matheus Cunha doubling the visitors’ advantage in the first Black Country Derby with fans for over a decade.
Pedro Neto had scored in the first-half and Cunha looked to have sealed Wolves’ passage into the fifth round but play was stopped in the 82nd minute and is currently suspended with the players heading into the tunnel after clashes between supporters.
West Midlands Police have subsequently issued a statement, which read: “We have extra officers at this local derby and they responded immediately as disorder in the stands caused fans to spill onto the pitch. Two people have been arrested for public order offences. We’re working with officials to get the game restarted as soon as possible.”
The Football Association has also released statement. “The disorder that ocurred at the Black Country derby betweeen West Bromwich Albion and Wolverhampton Wanderers is completely unacceptable.,” the FA said. “Safety and security are of the upmost importance, and the behaviour of those involved was dangerous and inexcusable. We will be investigating these serious incidents alongside the clubs and the relevant authorities, and the appropriate action will be taken.”
