New Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan inspired by Jurgen Klopp and quotes Liverpool boss at unveiling

The new Tennesssee Titans head coach channelled his inner Jurgen Klopp by quoting the Liverpool boss at his unveiling.

Brian Callahan has been named as the new boss of the Titans following the decision to sack Mike Vrabel at the end of their 2023 campaign – his sixth in charge of the franchise.

While having worked for several NFL teams in recent years, the role with the Titans will be Callahan’s first as a head coach, and he’s sought inspiration from one of the greatest coaches in world sport.

Callahan paid homage to Klopp less than 24 hours before the Liverpool manager stunned the football world by revealing he would be leaving the club at the end of the season.

Klopp has led Liverpool since 2015, in which time he has guided the club to glory in the Premier League, Champions League, Super Cup, Club World Cup, Carabao Cup and FA Cup.

At his unveiling, Callahan said: “This is a quote from Jurgen Klopp. I didn’t wanna just rip it off and present it as my own but he had said it at one point, he’s a soccer coach at Liverpool.

“He said: ‘When you agree on a common idea and work towards it together, then you can create something very special.’ That’s what I believe in, that’s what we’ll do here.”

Callahan then added how “there is no ability to have success without those principles”.

Titans finished with a 6-11 at the bottom of the AFC South this season, Callahan will be desperate to guide the club to a better campaign next time around.

“This is an exciting time for our franchise, and we’re thrilled to have Brian as our head coach,” said Titans controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk.

“We went through a thorough candidate search and Brian stood out as the best person to lead our football team.
