Scattered rain showers Tuesday with flooding potential Wednesday & Thursday

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – Good Tuesday morning. For the first time in over a week, our morning temperatures are starting above freezing in the low to middle 40s!

However, there are still some roads that have lingering ice on them, please drive carefully for the morning commute. Scattered rain showers have already developed to our west and will gradually move eastward as we go through the morning into the afternoon. Rainfall totals today will be light and will mostly favor areas along and west of I-65. Today will be cloudy and breezy with a southeasterly wind gusting over 20 miles per hour at times. Even with the cloud cover, high temperatures should reach the low to middle 50s.

Scattered to fairly widespread rain will move in overnight into the Wednesday morning commute to work and school. Wednesday and Thursday are now First Alert Weather Days for the potential of locally heavy rainfall that can lead to flash flooding across the Tennessee Valley. Wednesday will bring periods of heavier rain showers and embedded thunderstorms. Models are hinting at the heaviest rain arriving by late morning and staying through the Wednesday evening commute.

Thursday’s forecast brings in additional periods of widespread moderate to heavy rainfall with some non-severe storms possible. Rainfall totals for Wednesday and Thursday will range between 2 to 5 inches and area creeks, streams and rivers can see significant rises as a result. Friday looks to bring another day of scattered rainfall with temperatures staying in the lower to middle 60s.

Unfortunately, Saturday will bring one last day of widespread rainfall off and on through the day. Sunday is looking mainly cloudy and cooler with highs near 50 degrees.
