The ghost of “Wide Right” came back to haunt the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

Trailing 27-24 to Kansas City in a divisional round playoff game, Buffalo kicker Tyler Bass lined up for a 44-yard field with 1:47 remaining in the fourth quarter. If Bass is successful, the Bills could push the game into overtime, a miss would likely mean a loss.

Bass’s attempt sailed wide right.

“The two most dreaded words in Buffalo have surfaced again,” CBS play-by-play announcer Jim Nance said.

Kansas City gained possession, and running back Isaiah Pacheco ran on back-to-back plays for a first down and they ran out the clock.

Bass’s miss wide right was a painful reminder for Buffalo fans. The miss brought back memories of “Wide Right” during Super Bowl 25.

The Bills trailed the New York Giants 20-19 when kicker Scott Norwood lined up for a 47-yard field goal with eight seconds remaining in the game.

Norwood’s kick sailed wide right and the Bills lost.

Now, Bass’s miss in 2024 has been labeled “Wide Right II” and adds to the list of painful memories for Buffalo fans.
