Giannis Antetokounmpo signs super max with Milwaukee for next 5 years

For nearly two years, the end of Giannis Antetokounmpo’s contract was one of the biggest talking points in the NBA media. Will he sign the supermax or will he leave in free agency to a wide array of suitors? On Tuesday, he finally took all of the drama out of the storyline and helped reassure the franchise that he’s played with for his entire career, announcing that he has signed a 5-year contract with the Bucks.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the deal for the two-time defending MVP is a 5-year deal worth $228 million, including a player option in the 5th season.

Lakers fans, much like the fans of every other team who were hoping to steal Giannis away from Milwaukee, will now have to move on. And so will much of the media, who have fixated on the end of Giannis’ contract. While it was a story for a long time, now that Giannis has signed a monster supermax contract, we no longer have to worry, unless something very wayward happens in Milwaukee which seems very unlikely given the two-time MVP will be there for the foreseeable future.
