Dez Bryant Says Mike Tomlin ‘Ready to be The Next’ Cowboys Head Coach

Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant has his preference for the team’s next head coach.

Bryant responded to a post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, that showed Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin walking off the podium after being asked about his future with the team following the Steelers Wild Card Round loss to the Buffalo Bills.

Bryant’s response suggested that Tomlin’s next stop could be with his former franchise.

Tomlin is still currently the Steelers head coach and is under contract through the 2024 season. Also, the Cowboys do not currently have a coaching vacancy as Mike McCarthy is also under contract through 2024.

However, both situations could be changing this year. McCarthy’s job security is in question following the Cowboys shocking Wild Card loss to the Green Bay Packers. Tomlin’s future is also in question after rumors that he could depart a year early.

Many of the McCarthy rumors have been around former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick being the replacement, but Tomlin would certainly bring an excellent track record as well.

Tomlin has compiled a 173-100-2 record during his 17 seasons with the Steelers, leading the team to the postseason 11 times, the Super Bowl twice and helping Pittsburgh lift one Lombardi Trophy. He has also notably never had a losing season during his time with the franchise.

He is currently the longest-tenured head coach in the NFL following Belichick’s departure, but he could certainly be up for a new challenge. Dallas would be an excellent one, as the team has had three consecutive 12-5 seasons but only have a single playoff win over that period.

Multiple dominos would have to fall in order for Bryant’s prophecy to be realized. However, maybe Tomlin could be the jolt Dallas needs to reclaim its glory.
