New Aldi store coming to Papillion’s Settlers Creek shopping center

A new grocery store is coming to Papillion.

Construction of a new Aldi store is underway between Sam’s Club and Hobby Lobby at Settlers Creek shopping center near 72nd Street and Cornhusker Road. Aldi plans to open the store this summer, said Skyler Jones, Olathe, Kansas, divisional vice president.

Company officials chose the spot after considering several factors, Jones said.

“Bottom line, we look for convenient locations for our customers that can support high traffic volume daily,” he said in an email.

The news that Aldi is coming has drawn a positive reaction from the community, Papillion Mayor David Black said.

“Settlers Creek has a strong mix of stores and restaurants, but anytime you can bring in a new offering that gets residents excited, it adds positive energy and attention to the overall development,” he said.

“Aldi makes an excellent addition to Settlers Creek and demonstrates the level of interest we continue to have from quality national retailers to be a part of this project,” said Jay R. Lerner, president of the Lerner Company, in a joint press release from the Lerner Co. and RED Development.

The store will be housed in a 20,000-square-foot structure at the 250,000-square-foot shopping center, which is also home to Walgreens, AT&T, Chipotle Mexican Grill, Jersey Mike’s Subs and Smoothie King.

The building will have about 12,000 square feet of retail space, which is typical for Aldi stores, Jones said. Like other new Aldi stores, it will have increased refrigeration space for “more fresh, healthy and convenient products.”

“This additional cold storage gives us room to grow our already robust selection of fresh produce, dairy and meat,” he said. “New stores also feature open ceilings, natural lighting and environmentally friendly building materials.”

Aldi has operated supermarkets in Nebraska for 28 years, Jones said. The Papillion store will be its 12th in the state.

The Lerner Company is a retail real estate group, and RED Development is a Phoenix-based commercial real estate company.
