Location: Cambridge, Massachusetts

Price: $18.5 million

A brand-new three-level spec house filled with modern amenities is just off Brattle Street in the heart of Harvard Square.

“It’s discreetly positioned but right in the middle of where everybody wants to be,” said listing agent Ed Feijo, of Coldwell Banker Global Luxury.

The custom contemporary house was designed by Martin Cafasso and his Cambridge-based Cafasso Design Group, Feijo said. “We have worked with him on many houses.”

“The technology and all of the finishes are off the charts, all super-high end,” he said.

Architectural details include white oak flooring, 9-foot-plus ceilings throughout, custom millwork, large glass sliders and an electric heat-pump system.

“The floor plan is enormous,” Feijo said. “The main floor is pretty open with some cut-off spaces. The whole back of the house is open space for the way families live now.”

From the front door, you step into a large well-lit foyer with a twisting sculptural staircase, which acts as “the focal point of the house,” he said.

Other ground floor spaces include a music room, a family room, a modern eat-in kitchen and a library space with a full bathroom that would work well as a main-level bedroom, he said.

The kitchen features Italian walnut cabinets, Calacatta Gold marble countertops, an island, two sinks, two dishwashers, a Gaggenau 400 Series double oven and cooktop, and site-built pantry systems, according to the listing.

The family room opens to an intimate garden space, and the kitchen and dining area open to a deck and patio and the outdoor kitchen, Feijo said.

The second floor holds an open communal space with a contemporary floating fireplace, a study and four bedrooms, including the primary suite. It features custom closets outfitted by Scavolini of Italy and an en-suite with a soaking tub and a curbless open shower.

The lower level holds a screening room, a flex space with a kitchenette, an en-suite bedroom and a spa with a sauna and steam shower.

The Brown Street home is on one-third of an acre, which is “substantial for Harvard Square,” Feijo said.
