No-touchdown bettors in Jets-Patriots suffer heartbreaking bad beat
Jets #Jets
With the weather forecast looking poor in New England, the total for the Jets-Patriots game fell all the way to 28.5, which represented the lowest over/under in an NFL game since 1993. The Patriots closed as 2.5-point favorites at sportsbooks.
On a cold and windy day in Foxborough, bettors looked to attack the touchdown market, specifically loading up on No Touchdown to be scored in the entire game at favorable odds. At FanDuel Sportsbook, twice as many were on no touchdown to be scored as the second-most popular first TD bet.
At Circa Sports, the sportsbook didn’t take a single bet on a player to score a touchdown, which was the first time Circa director of operations Jeff Benson told For The Win he could remember that happening in an NFL game. Instead, bettors loaded up on No Touchdown to be scored at +1750 odds.
With under two minutes remaining, bettors were looking good as the Jets took over with just over two minutes left at their own 47-yard line. But Breece Hall took a handoff and ran 50 yards to the end zone to break bettors’ hearts and give the Jets a 15-3 lead. New York would add the two-point conversion for good measure to beat the Patriots 17-3, their first win over New England in 16 tried.
