The NFL reminds fans every week how dangerous a sport it can be.
While Cleveland Browns wide receiver Elijah Moore, who was at the center of the scary moment Thursday night, was eventually able to walk off the field with trainers by his side, it was not before his arms were left flailing as he laid on his back following a hard hit by New York Jets linebacker C.J. Mosley. Moore was slammed into the ground head-first after a 22-yard catch on a second-and-7 from the Cleveland 28 with 1:58 remaining in the first half.

Moore did not return to the game, but the moment that could have been much worse. He has been placed in the NFL’s concussion protocol, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapaport on Friday, and his status is “in doubt” for next week.
When the injury took place, Dr. Jesse Morse, a prominent sports medicine/injury expert, wrote on X, “Elijah Moore appears to have suffered a concussion with possible seizure. There was some spasticity of his arms that was likely involuntary. These symptoms don’t correlate with ‘severity’ of concussion.”
Another sports injury expert, Dr. Evan Jeffries, wrote on X, “Unfortunately those are involuntary movements from a Brain Injury for Elijah Moore.”
At the time, the 23-year-old Moore had five catches for 61 yards and a touchdown in the eventual 37-20 win. Moore was a second-round pick of the Jets in 2021. He was traded in March along with a third-round pick for the No. 42 pick in the 2024 draft.
