Rashford is a ‘great role model’, says Foden
Foden #Foden
Phil Foden has picked out Man United forward Marcus Rashford as a player he looks up to ahead of Saturday’s Manchester derby.
Foden made his first senior appearance for Man City during the 2017/18 season. He has grown as a footballer in that time, with his amount of game time increasing with each season that passes.
The midfielder has made 13 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side this campaign. The youngster has netted four times and he also has three assists.
Man Utd v Man City: One big game, five big questions
Foden broke through for City in a similar fashion to how Rashford earned a place in Man United’s first team.
Rashford is three years older than Foden and the striker has over 100 more senior appearances than his England teammate.
In an interview with The Times, Foden heaped praise on Rashford and labelled him as a “great role model.”
“He’s similar to me. He loves his club and has been through the academy and knows what it’s like. So it’s someone that I look up to, with him being English, and I would like to do the same as what he said, and stay at City for as long as possible.
“I know I’m nowhere near the standard that I want to be.
“I have two Premier League winner’s medals, but I don’t feel like I’ve actually won them because I didn’t play a big part.
“I’m determined to play more games and play a big part in the league this year, but I know I need to be patient. I’m at Manchester City and we buy loads of players. We have the money to do that. We have a big squad, and it rotates all the time.”
