We’re in the midst of Christmas party season, and many will know the pain of trying to find an appropriate outfit to wear while out drinking with your colleagues.
As Christmas Day approaches, many of us will have relished the opportunity to wind down with our colleagues. But before then, you’ll no doubt have spent a considerable amount of time rummaging through your wardrobe to try and find an outfit that is appropriate, but will still impress for the occasion.
One mum, who was struggling to find an ensemble to wear to her office party, sought advice from fellow parents online. But rather than being flooded with compliments, it sparked a debate, with several slamming it for being too “revealing” and “inappropriate”.
The woman gushed over the Zara top (

Taking to the popular forum Mumsnet last year, the woman shared a photo of Zara’s Asymmetric Bustier top, alongside the message: “I’m planning to get this bustier from Zara for my office Christmas party, which is black tie/cocktail dress code. (It will come back into stock in time. It WILL). What would you pair it with?
“I’m thinking chandelier earrings not unlike the model’s and maybe some wide-leg velvet trousers in a contrasting tone? Shoes? I don’t want to wear heels if I can help it.”
The woman seemed very excited by her outfit, which is no longer available on the Zara website, as it was limited edition. However, others weren’t completely sold on the stylish fit. Flocking to the comments, one forum user questioned whether the outfit was “suitable attire” to wear around her colleagues.
“Are you absolutely sure that this is suitable attire for your office Christmas party?” They asked. “I’d have thought most people wouldn’t consider something so revealing in my honest opinion.”
On the other hand, different online users took to the comment section to defend the woman’s outfit, with one person saying: “Very surprised someone said it was revealing, I guess if you consider showing your shoulders as revealing then I guess it is. Past that it’s quite conservative.”
Someone else wrote: “I think it’s lovely and actually fairly modest in that your boobs are covered. Would white or caramel crepe tailored trousers look chic with it? They’d be useful in the future too.”
A third penned: “That top is very modest compared to what some of the people I worked with wore to Christmas dos. I think most people like an excuse to dress up these days since everything is so much more casual.”
“I’m loving the whole look op [original poster]. Ignore those saying it’s too revealing or too expensive,” another added.
