Jordan Henderson reveals Liverpool’s injury concerns about Hendo Shuffle, but says ‘the lads made sure I did it’ for Premier League trophy lift

Jordan Henderson has revealed there were concerns among Liverpool personnel about the captain doing his trademark ‘Hendo Shuffle’ before the Reds’ Premier League title celebrations this week.

Jurgen Klopp’s men finally got their hands on the coveted trophy in a special ceremony at Anfield following Wednesday night’s 5-3 win over Chelsea – almost four weeks after they were crowned champions.

The build-up to the event was dominated by fans’ excitement and anticipation to see their skipper’s feet dance before holding aloft their first league title in 30 years, after his Champions League lift turned into a viral sensation.

He didn’t let them down, as the midfielder and his teammates enjoyed a night of great celebration at Anfield – despite the absence of supporters in the stands.

But in an exclusive interview with talkSPORT 2, shortly after being named the Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year, Henderson suggested there were fears within the camp about how his knee would hold up.

The England international was forced to sit out of the Chelsea game and is also unavailable for Liverpool’s final game of the season at Newcastle after suffering a knee injury during the 3-1 victory over Brighton earlier this month.

But he says he took all necessary precautions, admitting his fellow Reds encouraged him to give fans what they wanted to see.

Asked about his shuffle celebrations, the Liverpool captain told former Sunderland teammate Darren Bent on talkSPORT 2: “There was a lot of talk about that before, actually. But the lads made sure I did it.

“The knee is feeling better, I had strapping and stuff on to make sure it was all good. Rehab has been going well, and I’m feeling stronger every day.”

Henderson said Wednesday night’s celebrations are something he will never forget, despite the strange circumstances and the lack of fans in attendance.

And he said the moment of finally lifting Liverpool’s first Premier League title was made even sweeter by the fact it was handed over by Kenny Dalglish, who brought him to the club in 2011 when he was manager.

“It was really special, it was an amazing moment for me personally, just because Kenny brought me to Liverpool,” he explained.

“I wouldn’t be here today without him, not to talk about how big he is for the football club and what he’s done over the years.

“So to receive the Premier League trophy off him was really special and a moment I’ll always remember.”
