Christian Darbyshire, partner at Tine Public — the organizer of the event and other talks involving notable names, including Barack Obama and Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey and Ellen DeGeneres — said massive interest in the Calgary engagement showed there’s broad demand to hear Carlson speak.

“We have 4,000 on a waitlist, so we decided on adding a show and we thought Edmonton would make sense … we know the demand is massive,” Darbyshire said.

While Smith will not be a part of the Edmonton event, Carlson will be joined by Canadian conservative commentators Conrad Black and Rex Murphy, both longtime media personalities and contributors to the National Post.

“It’ll be Rex and Tucker and Conrad on stage at the same time so it will be really quite something,” Darbyshire said.

“You’re going to get to hear from them all, interesting commentary on global affairs.”

Darbyshire said that while Carlson may be seen as a controversial figure, the response to his appearance is not outside what he has seen with past speakers.

“It doesn’t really matter what side of the spectrum you’re on, you’re always going to have someone who disagrees,” he said.

Since being fired from Fox News, Carlson has started hosting a new show called Tucker on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Carlson got his start in journalism writing for the neo-conservative magazine the Weekly Standard before going on to host shows at CNN and MSNBC before being hired by Fox News.

There, he was a proponent of Donald Trump and pushed out several conspiracy theories regarding the Jan. 6 Capitol attack and Ukrainian bioweapons.

Fox fired Carlson after settling a defamation lawsuit with Dominion Voting Systems by paying $787.5 million for falsely claiming election fraud.

Tickets for the event go on sale at Ticketmaster.ca at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
