Marvel actor Jonathan Majors convicted of assaulting ex-girlfriend

Marvel actor Jonathan Majors has been convicted of assaulting his British dancer ex-girlfriend who chased him through Manhattan after he struck her in the back of a car.

Majors, a rising Hollywood star, 34, was on Monday found guilty on one count of assault and one count of harassment and acquitted of two further charges.

During the two-week trial, the court heard how Majors had fractured his then-girlfriend Grace Jabbari’s finger and left her ear bloodied after she tried to grab his phone after seeing a message from another woman.

Ms Jabbari, 30, who has appeared in Barbie and Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, accused Majors of hitting her in the face, twisting her arm and grabbing her as they returned home after watching a play and having dinner on 25 March.

Manhattan Criminal Court heard Majors had ordered the driver to stop in Chinatown.

CCTV footage shows the actor lifting his then girlfriend up and putting her back in the car, before proceeding to walk away.

Ms Jabbari, who met Majors when she was his movement coach on the set of  Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, can be seen following Majors and grabbing his arm.

Majors then sprints off, and Ms Jabbari chases Majors through Lower Manhattan streets.

Evidence released by the court include a picture of gash behind Ms Jabbari’s right ear as well as pictures of bruising and swelling on her fractured right middle finger.

The court also released a recording from December 2022 in which Majors tells Ms Jabbari she needs to act more like the wives of other notable men like Michelle Obama and Coretta Scott King — after he claimed that she had returned “drunk” to their London home.

Majors’ lawyer claimed it was Ms Jabbari that had attacked Majors in the car and then falsely accused him of assault after he broke up with her.

Majors had been touted as an Oscar contender for his role in Magazine Dreams, which was shelved by Disney earlier this year. Marvel and Disney immediately dropped Majors from all upcoming projects following the conviction, Associated Press reported.

He will be sentenced on 6 February and could face up to one year in prison.
