Kid Cudi Receives Honorary Master’s Degree From Miami Fashion Institute

Kid Cudi has a new accomplishment to add to his creative resume. On Sunday (Dec. 10), the rapper, born Scott Mescudi, received an honorary Master’s degree in fashion from the Instituto Marangoni Miami. The Cleveland native was recognized by the institution for his success in the fashion industry.

“This honorary degree from Istituto Marangoni Miami recognizes Scott’s (@kidcudi) accomplishments and vision in shaping the scene of modern fashion and luxury with Members of the Rage (@membersoftherage),” detailed an Instagram post from IMM.

“Recognizing the inspiration he is to young creatives is an honor for us to present this to the world of fashion worldwide and also a statement in the continuous pursuit of education in fashion and design, it is the future and the present of creativity.”

Along with receiving his master’s degree, proceeds from purchases of the Members of the Rage pop-up store will go towards the IMM Scholarship Fund. The GRAMMY Award-winning performer shared his own heartfelt Instagram post.

“Today was a really special day. Man, words cant really express how I felt/feel now in this moment. Im happy, I feel complete, accomplished, validated, all the things that bring immense joy. My mom sharing this moment w me was everything. She got emotional, and it was such a special memory we’ll have together forever,” explained the 39-year-old.

“I never walked across any stage. I got my GED in high school and only did a year of college. My mom finally got to see me achieve what I thought id never do. And it was beautiful.”

Members Of The Rage (MOTR) debuted on the runway during Paris Fashion Week with distressed polos, motorcycle jackets, knitwear, footwear, and a boom box-inspired shoulder bag.

Earlier this year, the “Mojo So Dope” rhymer shared how Pharrell Williams inspired him to pursue his interests in fashion and style.

“When I was young, man — I mean like 2001, 2002 — like, Pharrell was like the style god to me,” elaborated Kid Cudi. “It was like I was learning how to be fresh at that time, and like, he was like, the person I’d check for, most of the time. The fashion in Cleveland was not very forward, so like, I would look to guys like P or when Kanye came out.”
