Simon Jordan warns Manchester United off Graham Potter with damning verdict of Chelsea spell

Simon Jordan believes the Manchester United job would prove too big for Graham Potter following his ill-fated spell at Chelsea.

Potter has emerged as the latest name to be linked with the Old Trafford hot seat as boss Erik ten Hag faces increased scrutiny after United’s Champions League exit on Tuesday.

The former Brighton and Chelsea manager has been out of work since being relieved of his duties at Stamford Bridge in April and despite reportedly turning down offers to return to management, Potter is waiting for the right opportunity to reignite his managerial career.

Now, Manchester United could opt for the 48-year-old to help turn around their flailing fortunes, should they choose to part ways with Ten Hag.

talkSPORT understands Potter’s work is admired by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who is set to complete his minority stake purchase in Man United imminently.

Speaking to talKSPORT, former Crystal Palace owner Jordan has warned incoming investor Ratcliffe against appointing Potter following his stint in west London.

“To put Graham Potter in the conversation is stretching it a little bit,” said Jordan.

“What we’re doing is deciphering the relevance and coherency of such thinking. You couldn’t cope with Chelsea, you think you can cope with Man United? You think you can cope with that problem?

“It’s still a beast of a football club and the step up from Brighton to Chelsea was too much for him.

“It was the wrong decision and you can point towards the ownership model being all new and all the problems that Boehly brings but you still should have been able to cut through and build a side of some significance.

Jordan doubled down on his comments, claiming United’s current plight would not be a favourable option for Potter.

“I think that possibly if you got Potter into Manchester United and he was given a fair headwind and an even platform to build form and not huge expectations… Yeah fine, but that’s not Manchester United is it?

“If the owners of Manchester United think that putting Graham Potter into the hot seat would be a good process, they should sleep on it.

“And if they wake up in the morning and think it’s still a good idea then they should go back to bed.”
